1H,1H,2H,2H-Perfluorodecyltriethoxysilane (PFDTES) is a fluoroalkylsilane (FAS) with lower surface energy and higher wettability due to the presence of fluorinated carbon. It is a superhydrophobic agent used in the synthesis of various functional coatings.
PFDTES is used to enhance the superhydrophobicity of polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) to protect metal surfaces from fouling. A cost-effective and scalable super-bi-hydrophobic spray coating of PFDTES on stainless steel surfaces could potentially be used to create anti-icing and anti-fouling surfaces. It can be used to modify the surface of polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) to prepare microfluidic chips.
